Mental and phycological benefits of photography as wall art

A peaceful, serene mountain scene in Virginia “Rhododendron Valley

Studies show that living in urban areas can increase your risk for depression by up to 40%, anxiety by 20%, and double other psychological distresses like loneliness and stress.

With this in mind, let's take a look at how bringing the outside in can improve these statistics and transform your home and office from a space of continued stress and depression into a space of peace, and calm.

Choosing art for your home can be a challenge- after all, the piece of art you choose is a statement. It is a statement to you, and a statement to those you welcome into your home that this piece is something that evokes a special emotion from you. Whether that may be awe, peace, or a childlike wonder and fascination. It speaks to you deeply, beyond a simple passing appreciation.

Beyond that, It is important that the wall art you get fits your space. Will it clash with other artwork? Is the sizing right? Are the colors right for my interior? These are all things that need to be considered. That is one of the reasons I offer free custom mockups to ensure that your desired work fits your space. More about that here.

Bringing the outside in

Hamnøy View”, an Inspiring early morning sunrise in the arctic Lofoten Islands of Norway.

There is a reason that the city-dwellers of New York City have a massive park– central park. At the end of the day, city dweller or not, we need nature and a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life for proper psychological function.

Have you ever been on a hiking trip, and felt a sense of peace or calm that tends to carry over for a few days after returning home? Well believe it or not, your brain can't really tell the difference between standing at a beautiful mountain vista, and simply seeing it printed out on your own wall. Oversized wall art brings the outside in, and can bring your brain that sense of peace and serenity that can only be found outdoors.

Artwork for your home office

Back Bay Moods”, a Sunset on Christmas day in Back Bay NWR, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Many people these days enjoy work from home. A modern miracle of work-life balance. One unfortunate consequence of this however, is distraction and lack of motivation. If you were to however, enjoy your work with the view of incredible natural scenery, it can bring you that sense of peace that can be lacking within the four walls you so often are confined in, but also inspire motivation to keep pushing.

Part of the joy of having your own home office is that you have control over how it is arranged. Unlike a cubicle, the sky (or I suppose your ceiling) is the limit! Whatever brings you inspiration can be added to your walls without needing approval.

Find what inspires you!
